Independent Singapore VCC guidance
Direct answer
Start with the question you need the public record to answer. Use a current business profile for basic entity, sub-fund and position-holder information; obtain an extract, certificate or register only when the decision needs that added evidence. Authenticate the purchased document through ACRA's stated method, then compare its identifiers with the contract, invoice and independently verified payment instructions. A genuine ACRA document confirms its own provenance; it does not prove investment quality, solvency, licensing scope or the authority of every person who contacts you.

- Verify regulatory status and payment instructions through separate sources.
Who this is for
- Banks, administrators, auditors, advisers, vendors and investment counterparties checking a Singapore VCC or sub-fund.
Important exclusions
- A complete legal, financial, sanctions, source-of-funds or investment due-diligence opinion.
Choose the record by question
| Question | Starting product | What it does not answer |
|---|---|---|
| Is this the named VCC and what are its basic particulars? | Business Profile | Commercial standing, investment quality or the full history of filings |
| What was filed in a past document? | Relevant extract | Whether the historical fact is still current |
| Do I need formal evidence of a status or registration fact? | Relevant certificate | Authority for a specific proposed transaction |
| Who appears in an official role register? | Relevant register product | Whether the person has internal delegated authority for this contract |
| Is a received ACRA product genuine? | Product authentication using the document's QR code or authentication details | Whether the underlying counterparty is commercially suitable |
ACRA's current catalogue lists a Business Profile at S$5.50, extracts from S$11, certificates from S$11 and role registers at S$20. Price should not drive the choice: identify the decision and required date first. A historical extract may be relevant to a dispute but less useful for confirming current officers. A business profile may be enough for basic onboarding but not for a transaction that requires certified evidence or a specific register.

Authenticate and preserve the document
ACRA says purchased VCC information can be checked for authenticity for 30 days, using either the QR code on the last page or the authentication number and UEN through the VCC Portal. The download link for a purchased product expires seven days after delivery. Download promptly to the controlled onboarding file, retain the purchase acknowledgement, perform authentication within the available period and record who checked it. Do not circulate a screenshot that removes the authentication page or context.

- Download the complete product before the delivery link expires.
- Record purchase date, source, product type, VCC name and UEN.
- Authenticate using the QR code or portal details within ACRA's check period.
- Store the complete file and acknowledgement in the controlled onboarding record.
- Limit personal-data access and share only what the receiving team needs.
- Set a refresh trigger for delayed signing or a material counterparty change.
Separate entity checks from regulatory checks
A VCC Business Profile can show entity and position-holder information, but it is not a substitute for checking a manager's regulatory status and scope through the relevant MAS source. It also does not prove that the contact person has authority to bind the VCC, that a bank account is controlled by the correct party, or that an investment is suitable. Build separate workstreams for entity verification, regulatory status, sanctions and beneficial-owner checks, authority, financial assessment and payment authentication.

| Manager regulatory status | Current MAS register or directly responsible source | Does the recorded manager have the relevant current status and scope? |
| Transaction authority | Board or delegated authority and authenticated signatory evidence | Can this person bind or instruct for this transaction? |
| Payment authenticity | Independently verified bank or custody instruction | Is the money going to the intended controlled account? |
| Commercial suitability | Financial, legal and operational due diligence | Should the organisation accept the relationship and its risks? |

Resolve discrepancies before reliance
Discrepancy response
- Minor formatting differenceCompare the UEN and complete legal name, document the reason and correct working records before signing.
- Sub-fund missing or mismatchedPause and obtain documents that clearly identify the intended asset pool and transaction context.
- Officer or manager differsRefresh the ACRA record, check the effective change and verify regulatory status separately where relevant.
- Payment instruction changesDo not rely on email alone; authenticate through a previously verified channel and repeat the approval control.
- Document cannot be authenticatedObtain a fresh product directly through the official channel and preserve the failed check for review.
Close the onboarding file with a concise verification note: question asked, product obtained, authentication result, comparison performed, exceptions resolved and remaining checks. If signing or funding is delayed, define when the record becomes stale for your risk policy. A clear note helps the next reviewer understand both what the ACRA product established and what it deliberately did not establish.

Frequently asked questions
What does a VCC Business Profile help verify?
ACRA describes it as a source of basic entity information such as the UEN, entity name, registration date and position-holder information. It is a practical starting record for onboarding, but additional products and separate checks may be needed for the actual decision.
How can I check whether the purchased document is genuine?
ACRA provides a free authenticity check for 30 days after purchase. Use the QR code on the product's last page or enter the authentication number and UEN through the official Product Authentication route, then record the result.
Does an ACRA profile prove the fund manager is properly regulated?
No. The profile and current ACRA record help identify the manager connected with the VCC, but regulatory status and activity scope should be checked separately against the relevant current MAS source. Do not infer regulatory permission from entity registration alone.
Should I accept bank details shown in an email if the VCC profile matches?
No. Entity verification and payment authentication are separate controls. Verify bank or custody instructions through a trusted, independently established channel, compare the account context with the contract and sub-fund, and repeat approval when instructions change.
